"WORK – God's Expectations "
Text:  Matthew 25 : 14 – 30  NKJV

Matthew 25 : 14 – 30  NKJV  |  The Parable of the Talents
(see Luke 19:11–27 )
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’
26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

As a believer, You are in the construction business.

God has made you a partner in his Construction Firm.

As a partner, YOU ARE THE WORK and YOU ARE A WORKER.

Ephesians 2 : 10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

The heart of God’s Work (His Workmanship) is HIS LOVE.

His LOVE is Unconditional – but God still has expectations of His Workmanship, US.

God Expects You to Work As A Servant          (v. 14)
Matthew 25 : 1 – 3  NKJV
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.

A Servant Works at the Command of His/Her King – They work TO SERVE at the pleasure of the King.

God Expects You to be a Competent Worker          (v. 14b – 15)
Matthew 25 : 14 – 15  NKJV
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.

We Receive His Treasure (The Gospel).

We Go into the Marketplace and Community and Be Fruitful with the Treasure He has Given Us.

God Expects You to Work By Faith          (v. 15 – 18)
Matthew 25 : 15 – 18  NKJV
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.

We Receive His Treasure (The Gospel).
God Expects Us to Go and Be Fruitful with the Treasure He has Given Us.

The Reward is Coming – The Master will return – and I will get my just reward.

God Expects You to be a Productive Worker          (v. 19)
Matthew 25 : 1 – 3  NKJV
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.

The Master will return – and He is expecting a RETURN ON HIS INVESTMENT.

God has given much to those who believe in Him.  Therefore, God expects much.

God Expects Our Work to be WORTH REWARDING          (v. 20 – 23)
Matthew 25 : 20 – 23  NKJV

The Bible says all of our work on earth will be tried in the FIRE to see what sort it is.

1st Corinthians chapter 3, verses 12 thru 15
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

God Expects Us to be MANAGERS          (v. 20 – 23)
Matthew 25 : 20 – 23  NKJV

Our Perception of and Outlook on Ministry is that of a MANAGER.

It is impossible to MANAGE anything or anyone without doing some WORK.

Our Spiritual Identity is that of a son/daughter AND priest.

1 Peter chapter 2, verses 9 & 10
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

God Expects Us to be WORKING UNTIL He Returns          (v. 24 – 28)
Matthew 25 : 24 – 28  NKJV

Our work in the spiritual marketplace indicates what we think about God.
- No work shows that we do not care what God says.
- No work shows that we have an unscriptural view of God's requirement of us to be productive disciples.
- No work shows that all we did with God's message of love was hid it in our minds. (it was buried in the dirt).

The Lord of the servant called him "WICKED" and "LAZY"
- The UNPROFITABLE servant is WICKED because of what he believes about his lord and because of what he FAILS TO OBEY.
- The UNPROFITABLE servant is LAZY because of what he believes about TIME and because of what he FAILS TO DO.

The Reward is Coming – The Master will return – and we will get OUR just reward.

God Expects Us to FOCUS ON OUR OWN REWARD         (v. 29 - 30)
Matthew 25 : 29 – 30  NKJV
29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

The Profitable Servants receive their reward, AND the treasure of the Unprofitable servants.

God's Expectations can be fulfilled in US, because WE ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP.

2 Corinthians 5 : 16 – 17  NKJV
Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

When God went to work, we became NEW – In our SPIRIT, In Our SOUL, and In Our BODY.

When God went to work, He put His treasure IN us, and put us to work in His vineyard.

2 Corinthians 4 : 6 – 7  NKJV
6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
