Matthew 9 : 35 – 38  NKJV
The Compassion of Jesus
(Luke 10:2, 3 )
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.(fn)  36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary(fn) and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Introduction

Security is found in LOVE.

Spouses FEEL more secure than Single Adults because they have a greater sense of protection or security through the commitment of their spouses to LOVE THEM FOR LIFE.

Children of households with two (2) parents FEEL more secure emotionally, socially, and relationally than children with one (1) or no parents. In general they are receiving more parental attention and love than if they only had one (1) parent.
Decades of scientific research bear out the truth that these children achieve more and are more fulfilled in their adult life than children with one (1) or no parents.

Security is found in LOVE.

Citizens of developed nations with a robust economy and military infrastructure FEEL more secure than citizens of less developed nations with underdeveloped economies and less stable military infrastructure.

The first group feels secure because they can take care of themselves without being subservient or slaves to another nation or nations.

The first group feels secure because they believe that their military keeps their borders safe and protects their interests AND is capable of defeating any and all foes that may choose to attack them.

Like love, these citizens have chosen to cooperate as a group of people for a common goal – security/preservation. You take of me and I will take care of you – You look out for me and I will look out for you.

Security is found in LOVE.
But,
In this imperfect world, there are those who are not secure.
In this imperfect world, there are those who are EXPOSED.
In this imperfect world, there are those who are WEARY.
In this imperfect world, there are those who are UNCOVERED.

Jesus saw humanity and the state we would devolve down to when SIN entered our experience.
Jesus saw humanity and knew we would NEED MINISTRY.
Jesus saw humanity and knew we would NEED HIS LOVE.

----------

Jesus saw humanity BEFORE the World was created.

Jesus saw humanity and knew we would NEED HIS LOVE.
Jesus saw humanity and knew we would NEED HIS MINISTRY.
When Jesus completed His Assignment on the earth, he charged us, THE CHURCH, with carrying out HIS MINISTRY.

Matthew 28:18-20     The Great Commission
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore (fn) and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.(fn)

John 14:12     Greater Works
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

The World receives HIS LOVE Through HIS BODY, The Body of Christ, THE CHURCH.
Jesus has supplied the LOVE and the BLUEPRINT for meeting the needs of humanity.

TRANSITION:  Jesus gives us the Blueprint for Ministry.

- - -
John 14 : 10
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
- - -
TRANSITION:
We SPEAK the Words given to us by God – The GOSPEL of the Kingdom (His LOVE)
We SPEAK the Words given to us by God – HEALING Upon the People (His LOVE)
We SPEAK the Words given to us by God, and We SPEAK them with POWER.

II.  Minister the LOVE OF GOD With POWER  (Matthew 9  v. 35)
Matthew 9 : 35  (NKJV)
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. (fn)

He (Jesus) ministered the LOVE OF GOD with POWER.

He (Jesus) ministered the LOVE OF GOD with AUTHORITY.

People confessed Jesus as The Messiah, and their sins were forgiven them (DIVINE POWER).

People believed on Jesus as The Messiah, and they were added to the Family of God (DIVINE AUTHORITY).

People received the Power of God for HEALING, and they were healed AND made whole (DIVINE POWER and AUTHORITY).

TRANSITION:

Jesus Ministered the LOVE of God With WORDS.
Now we can minister the LOVE of God With WORDS.

Jesus Ministered the LOVE of God With POWER.
Now we can minister the LOVE of God With POWER.

AND

Jesus Ministered the LOVE of God With COMPASSION.
Now we can minister the LOVE of God With COMPASSION.

III.  Minister the LOVE OF GOD With COMPASSION  (Matthew 9  v. 36)
Matthew 9 : 35  (NKJV)
36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary (fn) and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

We serve God by SERVING PEOPLE.
We love God by LOVING PEOPLE.
The God of ALL IS LOVE.
Everything He does is With Love.
His Judgments are WITH LOVE.
His Mercies are WITH LOVE.
God is FULL of COMPASSION.  God FEELS what we feel.
More importantly, God SEES US.  He SEES the Real Person on the Inside.

TRANSITION:

Jesus Ministered the LOVE of God With COMPASSION.
Now we can minister the LOVE of God With COMPASSION.

And this COMPASSION is given by God not to FEEL SORRY for people.

This COMPASSION is given by God not to be SYMPATHETIC for people.
This COMPASSION is given by God to be EMPATHETIC towards people.
To FEEL What They FEEL, to Remember that YOU were weary and scattered.

This COMPASSION is given by God to die to self and be used by God

TO COVER people lost without a Shepherd.

To COVER the Unarmed and COVER the Unguarded.

Ephesians 6 : 10 – 18     The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, (fn) against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
